Pilgrims travels from all over subcontinents to bath in her water as an act of worship and in the hopes of obtaining her blessings and realizing salvation.
The stream of consciousness of Ganga comes from the combined energy of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The energy originates from the big toe of Lord Vishnu and then is collected by Lord Brahma in his kamandul and given a charming divine form. Before Ganga descends to earth she is held captive in the hairlocks of Lord Shiva and become charged with the energy of him also. She is now to purify everyone who comes in contact with her holy water.
PRAYER TO MOTHER GANGA
You are the purifier of three words. Your life giving water cures evil thoughts and deeds and provides perfect peace of mind I humbly pray to your lotus feet.
You gave Bhagirath desired boon and your power to purify is known through the three worlds. I am not able to comprehend your might. Excuse me for my short comings and ignorance.
You were born from the holy feet of Lord Vishnu and were placed by Lord Shiva in the beautiful snow-clad Himalayas. The droplet of your pure water are like pearls. Those who live near your bank attain salvation. You are adored by all in all three worlds.
